Notes & Combos
My first time reaching Master 1 with a deck that isn't Infernoble! It has been a fun ride but I'm sure it would have been faster if I played my main deck. To my surprise, this was a combo deck that was relatively easy to learn once you sit down and really try to memorize the individual card effects. Shoutout to Deepsea Darew's video guides and the extensive combo spreadsheet as general resource. He goes over it and the video and also explains the core concepts and phases the main combos share. With this knowledge you can just freestyle your combos for the most part - the spreadsheet is still here to go through optimal plays if you're interested.
After struggling with consistency in a different build of the deck that I used for learning, I switched to this one (based on Judeu's top rated deck) at around Master 4. Deviations from his deck were the addition of
- Triaina (to more consistently get to decent end board pieces)
- Zealantis (Coral Anemone water lock to Zealantis to banish the opponent's fields and no monsters that aren't Water come back.
- Main Deck Aegirine (hasn't come up much at all, probably cutable)
In my previous build, access to Virtue Stream and Lancea, Dragon of the Ice Mountain has helped a lot in some games. The drawback is running 2 more bricks for a higher combo ceiling. While I miss those cards, the consistency in this deck (which isn't known for being that consistent) has been really good and the end board was often sufficient to secure the win. Often with the help of hand insight of the opponent and ripping 2-3 cards from their hand.
