MEMENTO FTK!

Believe it or not, I'm only half joking. Number 67 is a heck of a card. I don't like floodgating people, but the meta has forced my hand.

You can also listen to my thoughts if you prefer https://youtu.be/vc3reHqqkEw It's my first time attempting voice commentary so it's be a bit cringe. (please be gentle) But I had to start somewhere.

Anyway, the ratios are mostly standard except for two Angwitch and two Fusion. I chose to cut these down because I found them clogging my hands a little too often. I’m also on three Grand breakout to give the many targeting interactions in the current meta a hard time. I’m playing a clean 40 because I want to see my anti-hand-trap techs as often as possible.

The real star of the show though, is Number 67 Pair-a-Dice Smasher. In testing, I found that Memento had a poor Striker Tenpai matchup, and it is the (91.9%) perfect solution. I decided to play it over Diabellze because: One, it isn’t a garnet, and Two, you can always choose to not use it. In fact, the only situations when I decided to use smasher were: against decks that made me go second and didn’t use any hand-traps, when my opponent’s deck was 60 cards, and generally any time I could do so with no opportunity cost (uninterrupted Angwitch starter).

I didn’t play much non-engine, because frankly, I felt that both hand-traps and board-breakers were too inconsistent into this meta. As a result, I did something I really don’t like doing: Playing all gas and praying I would go first. Fortunately, I won the toss 66% of the time, and I took away an 80% win-rate. 92% win-rate going first, 60% going second, for a total of 25 and 6. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get even a single good replay to share. Ten of the games I played, my opponent surrendered on turn 1, five more I hit them with Number 67. Of the rest, most of my losses were unavoidable (Stun, Gimmick Puppet, Maxx “C” + Fuwa). And even the games beyond that weren’t especially competitive.

In the end, I like Memento, it’s both a strong and fun deck. But the meta is rough right now, and I’m tired of playing matches that feel like they’re reduced to me and my opponent comparing opening hands. As such I took a break from the game to (try) to improve my video making skills.

That said,I need to stop rambling, because I'm nearly at the character limit for this write-up! Please leave any questions you may have down below, I'm always happy to answer them. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
